twibble desktop

twibble desktop is a multi account twitter client for Mac, Linux, and Windows built on top of the Adobe AIR platform.

Current Version is 0.5.6 beta (14 SEP 2009).

You can download twibble below. Or click on the screenshot if you already have Adobe AIR installed. This is a beta version. If you have any problems running twibble please also check the FAQ.

Features include

support for multiple accounts (twitter, identi.ca, private and corporate miroblogging instances (twitter API compatible))
drag and drop uploading of pics and videos to Mobypicture or twitpic (pics only). Click on the icon near the char counter to display the upload pane
persistent search, will be reloaded after start-up and refreshes automatically (tracking)
intelligent auto-scrolling: if a tweet is selected the view will keep the item visible, otherwise twibble jumps to the start when new tweets arrive
notifications (replys/dms or all tweets)
drag and drop shortening of urls using bit.ly
Tweets, replies, direct messages, and favs are displayed in different tabs sorted by date
supports all important twitter functions
automatic update: You will be notified when a new version is available at start-up
keyboard shortcuts: twibble has keyboard shortcuts for the most important twitter functions. You can flip through the list like in other list based applications.

Download and install the beta

twibble desktop To get twibble running, first install Adobe AIR for your platform and then the twibble AIR file itself. The twibble installer is here. Make sure you have the latetest Adobe AIR runtime installed. If the auto updater doesn’t work for whatever reason you can always upgrade to the latest version by clicking on that link.

Getting started

After installation enter your twitter credentials in the preferences dialog. You can add multiple twitter or identi.ca accounts. When you set a refresh interval in the preferences twibble will attempt to fetch your tweets automatically. Click in a tweet to show the function buttons.
To tweet enter some text and press return. You have 140 characters. twibble allows you to drop photos in the pic box (click on photo icon to show) or to drop uris from your web browser onto the tweet box.

twibble supports the following shortcuts in the tweet view:
↑,↓, ctrl-↑, ctrl-↓, home, end to navigate through your tweets
r to send an @-reply
d to send a direct message.
t to jump to the tweet text field.
In the tweet text area press Escape to return to your tweet list.

@Paul Monaco we are currently working on a new version which should have the most requested features. As for now you can paste long URLs into the box, they will be shortened by twitter. Thx!

0.3.3 failed to install on Windows XP that has Adobe AIR installed and supporting another app.

Today Adobe AIR asked me to update. After this twibble does not work. When I’m trying to start it, Air responds:
“The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged. Try obtaining a new AIR file from the application author.”
Please, suggest what should I do to fix the problem. Thank you.

@dmych You’re probably on Linux which Adobe has just upgraded to Air V 1.5? I just upgraded to Air 1.5 as well and twibble seems to run just fine (ubuntu 8.10). Perhaps an uninstall/reinstall might help?

I prefer Tweetdecks ‘cleaner’ inteface. Twibbles bold white borders are not as subtle as Tweetdecks grey, less obtrusive, GUI. I know it is not massively important but it helps to appeal to the masses. john

Loving the features, but I prefer the pre-beta’s interface better in the sense that it looked more sleek without the borders and top bar. If you could clean up the interface a little, and make it look much more simplified and less cluttered, it would be really great.

Excellent upgrade! It’s great for monitoring replies and DMs on multiple Twitter accounts–like blog and RSS feed bots to which people sometimes reply and DM.

Feature suggestions:
- Change default check interval from 0 to 10 or 15 minutes.
- Include an option to globally change the check interval across all accounts.
- Enable starting of Twibble in Replies or Direct tab instead of Tweets.

@Toby air apps also save their settings somewhere in your home directory (depends on your platform) Try to remove them, too, before installing the new version.
