July 30th, 2009 by thilo 5 CommentsPersistent searches in twibble mobile
In the latest version of twibble mobile you’ll find a new sub menu ‘Searches’ with your latest search queries. The entries are saved. This way you can easily follow your favorite subjects, users or hash tags on twitter. You can even construct complex search queries using the twitter search API. After performing a search you can go back to your tweets using the left/right keys.

Additionally the menus have slightly changed. When you click the middle joystick button (“Fire”) you’ll get fast access entries to the most important twibble functions (including links in a tweet). The menu soft button has the full menu. Finally twibble 0.9.22 fixes a bug when displaying GPS positions in a tweet.
twibble mobile on S60 V5 devices
The latest beta 0.9.21 of twibble mobile should run on S60 V5 devices including Nokia N97 or 5530 with touch screens.

If you have any trouble running Java apps you might want to try out the latest Java Virtual Machine from Nokia Labs. You probably also want to set twibble's application settings like in the pic above (in "Application Manager"). This avoids the on screen keyboard and annoying confirmation dialogs to access the network etc. Also install the latest firmware on your phone.

twibble mobile 0.9.20 runs on some more devices including Nokia’s N96, N85, 6720 classic, 6220 classic and other MIDP 2.1 phones. After installation you can flip through your timelines and Search view using the right and left key.
Just in case you get an older version when downloading make sure any twibble files are removed from your message inbox and browser caches first. Also make sure you have the latest firmware.

July 13th, 2009 by thilo 6 Commentstwibble on the Blackberry
The folks at BBGeeks just posted a great walk through of twibble on the Blackberry. Thank you guys! Just a few additional remarks that might help you to get started quickly: Usually twibble connects to the twitter servers without problems. If not make sure your APN is set correctly. On some networks it also helps to change the Server API root in the twibble Options to ‘http://twitter.com’ (rather than https://twitter.com). Once set up you can flip through your timelines using the left and right keys (or trackball).

July 7th, 2009 by thilo 5 Commentsnew features of twibble
as you’ve probalby already noticed the twibble clients got updated once again. Thanks to my friends at The Future of Everything twibble mobile 0.9.19 features the great looking tazaar theme (Check out tazaar.com if you want to buy or sell something on twitter!). You may also want to try the searches triggered by the new items below the ‘links’ submenu. Version 0.9.19 should run on the Blackberry Storm, too. Hotkeys ’5′ and ’8′ are now mapped to Start and End of the tweet list, respectivley.
The new twibble desktop Version 0.5.0 got a slightly different transparent look. It also includes some bug fixes. Replies from the search list are now properly linked to the original tweet.

July 4th, 2009 by thilo No Commentstwibble’s new Pic Browser (2)
… has slightly changed compared to the first version. Now you can quickly browse through your directories in text mode. In a directory you got two options: ‘Thumbs of latest’ displays thumbnails of the last (newest) six pics in that directory:

That’s supposed to be very fast. As before ‘Show all thumbs’ shows thumbnails of all the pics. In any case you should set the application permissions correctly to avoid the confirmation dialogs. twibble’s version number now is 0.9.17!

In Version 0.9.15 twibble mobile just got a fine picture browser helping you to select the right file to send to twitpic or Mobypicture. It presents thumbnails of the JPG-files in the selected directory.

After installation make sure your application permissions are set correctly. Otherwise you’ll see tons of annoying confirmation dialogs when browsing through the files. Also keep in mind that the generation of thumbnails can be slow. It’s a good idea to keep the number of pics in a directory small. In addition Version 0.9.15 fixes some encoding and scrolling problems. Due to popular demand the shortcut to save favorite tweets is back on ’7′. The twitter search is on [#] or [s]. As before [*] or [u] refreshes the current view (including search).

May 29th, 2009 by thilo 10 Commentssetup hints for twibble mobile
This post describes how to turn off the security warning dialogs in twibble mobile 0.9.14. The screen shots are taken on a Nokia N95. The procedure will differ between the various devices.
1) after installation of twibble mobile open Applications->App. mgr.

2) open twibble from the list of installed applications

3) change the permissions. E.g. setting ‘Read user data’ to ‘Always allowed’ will prevent the annoying file selection warning to pop up when uploading a pic to twitpic or Mobypicture. You can also set a default access point and allow network access. In that case twibble starts up very quickly with no confirmation dialog at all.
twibble mobile 0.9.12
should run on some more devices and fixes a couple of bugs. If you’ve had problems running twibble before pls try 0.9.12.
