The public beta of the all new twibble mobile for Java enabled smartphones is now available. It has been rewritten from the ground and includes many improvements:

Different screens for tweets, replies, and direct messages. You can flip through the screens using the right and left keys (trackball).
avatar pics (enable in options or leave disabled for low bandwidth connections).
support for identi.ca and private/corporate laconi.ca instances.
support for uploading photos to Mobypicture.com. Photos will even be geocoded if you have a GPS enabled phone! Look here for an example.
much nicer Blackberry integration. twibble functions are directly accessible via the standard BB menu key.
more themes including darkred and pink.
faster, smaller memory footprint, and better overall UI experience.
no intermediate server, requests will directly access the twitter servers securely via https.

Point your phone browser to http://m.twibble.de and follow the instructions. The final version will be signed to get rid of the annoying confirmation/security dialogs. This is a beta version which will expire on June, 1st. As always, looking forward to your feedback!

The upcoming release will have loads of new features including separate timelines for tweets, replies, and direct messages, profile pics, support for Mobypicture, good looking themes, and a better user expirience. twibble desktop beta available

A new beta version of twibble desktop is available! It supports multiple twitter accounts as well as public and private/corporate instances of the laconi.ca microblogging platform. We’ve also added support for mobypicture via a drag-and-drop photo uploader.

After one day the first Micro Blogging Conference #mbc09 in Hamburg has already exeeded all my expectations. Cem Basman and his team did a phantastic job to get it up and running!
If you are following @twibble on twitter.com or identi.ca you already know there’s a new twibble desktop available for testing. I presented it at #mbc09 today.
For the impatient this is how to play with it:

install Adobe AIR 1.5.
to be safe uninstall any old versions of twibble desktop
Grab the test version of new twibble desktop here
If twibble won’t start properly (e.g. the spinner doesn’t disappear) delete the twibble settings (on Windows below your “Application Data” folder, on Mac below “Library/Preferences”) and start over.

Things you could try:

Add as many accounts as you want for twitter.com or identi.ca. All tweets, dents, replies and direct messages will be displayed in one list
Select your favorite color scheme
Drag and Drop URIs into the message field
Click on the photo icon and drag a photo on the canvas. To send the pic go back to the message field and press return
enter a search query and press return. Search queries will be repeated every 5 min. You can open as many search windows as you like and construct complex queries following the search api syntax. That way you can follow subjects on twitter very easily
click on the filter icon above the tweets

And last but not least select a notification rule (Settings/GUI) and see what happens! Thanks again, André!

just in case you don’t know the current version of twibble mobile has some preliminary support for the microblogging platform identi.ca as well. Just enter your identi.ca user name with the prefix ‘i ‘ (like in ‘i twibble’) in the username field of the twibble Options dialog. You should be able to use all major identi.ca functions (dm, @reply, etc.). Other options available in combination with twitter (like twitpic) may not work, however.
