It looks great so far on the N73, much better than the previous beta.
And it is indeed fast!
Thank you very much for your work
the twibble blog!
twibble mobile 0.9.8
Another beta of twibble mobile for J2ME enabled phones is available! Despite several bug fixes the new version let’s you to follow user timelines and hashtags (via twitter search). Check out the new menu item ‘open in browser’. And (again) the new version is much faster than before. It fetches tweets, replies and direct messages almost instantly (given a fast network connection and fast twitter response times). And the app is still just about 95 kByte in size!
By default, the new version accesses twitter via http. If you want a secure connection enter https://twitter.com in the ‘Server api root’ field under Options. To try the new version navigate to http://m.twibble.de using your phone browser and follow the installation procedure.
Update: Version 0.9.8 fixes the ‘Connection not Writable’ error on some Blackberry devices and tweet times not updating properly when they move down the tweet list.

Hello. Congrats for the new update.
Would it be possible for the new releases to have an attach picture directly from camera, instead of file choose ? That would be great!
keep up the good work.

@thilo 0.9.6 is working fine on my E71.
The “loss of twitter list and ‘Menu’ key non-response following reload” problem seen in 0.9.5 is gone.
A question. Has reload[#] been removed from 0.9.6 ?
[*] works fine. [#] does nothing.
Great app. Thanks for the bug fixes.

Hi Thilo,
congratulations, twibble on the mobile is making really good progress. The 0.9.6 is a major step forwards compare to the 0.8.something I’ve used before. Keep up the good work.
Btw, please consider making http://m.twibble.de a link whereever possible to make it easier to download and install twibble. Typing on the mobile can be exhausting sometimes
5 thilo // Apr 18, 2009 at 23:04
thanks all, very much appreciated! Yepp, the # key has gone, pressing * should update all timelines. Still thinking about the direct camera tweeting! @Christian, will do! btw, a trillr with a server api root following the laconica pattern (http://laconi.ca/trac/wiki/TwitterCompatibleAPI) would be great!

@thilo 0.9.6 working great on my LGs Viewty and Cookie. Thanks for all your time and effort. john

The app is getting more awesome, but for some reason, all the tweets are shown as being posted an hour later than they should be. A tweet I posted 5 minutes ago shows as ‘(65 min. ago)’
This might be an api issue or something, as I’ve only noticed the issue recently, before I updated to the current version.
Any known fix?
(FYI, SE k850i)

@thilo – Tweets not loading at all on .6. “Connection not writeable error” on the status bar up top. BB Curve 8320 tmo.
9 Philo // Apr 19, 2009 at 05:42
Any way to go back to .5 in the meantime?
10 Eli // Apr 19, 2009 at 07:44
Excellent!!
Menu button has been fixed, and the http:// default is great.
Thank you for a greatly-improved version!
11 thilo // Apr 19, 2009 at 08:40
@Philo could you pls try 0.9.7? The “Connection not writeable error” seems to be present in certain versions of the BB OS. 0.9.7 is the same as 0.9.6 with a fix for those versions.
12 thilo // Apr 19, 2009 at 12:25
@Gleeb sounds to me that your time zone / daylight saving time settings are may be not correct?
13 Martin Campbell // Apr 19, 2009 at 12:57
Possible bug in 0.9.6 on SE w910i. Tweets show correct time when originally fetched but do not update time as they get older. New tweets when fetched appear in the correct order above old tweets but all time stamps less than my 5 min update frequency. I now have over 12 hours worth of tweets all labelled from just now to 5 min.
14 Martin Campbell // Apr 19, 2009 at 13:01
I like the new @name features like Open in browser > Timeline of name and Open in browser > Search for @name. Can we please also have More > Follow name.
I’m using https with the new security certificate on my SE w910i and SE w595 and it’s working fine on both, but I think you’re right to make http the default for the benefit of new and unskilled users.
Overall I think the new twibble is getting better and better. Well done!
15 ninebladed // Apr 19, 2009 at 13:18
On my Nokia E71, I’m seeing the exact same tweet timestamp not updating issue Martin has mentioned in post 13.
I have to exit and restart twibble to get the timestamps of the already collect tweets to update.
16 thilo // Apr 19, 2009 at 13:34
@Martin Campbell, @ninebladed You’re right, thanks! Fixed in 0.9.8!
17 thilo // Apr 19, 2009 at 13:38
@Martin Campbell thank you very much for your helpful comments! As you see I followed your suggestion to have non ssl access as default
What do you mean by “More > Follow name”? You can follow a user using More->Add follower?

Hallo Thilo, vielen Dank für die neue Version
kann wieder twittern mit dem SE K850 i
hab keine Probleme mit der Zeit. Überall steht “just now”.

If I get a tweet containing @martincampbell2, I now get menu entries Open in browser > Timeline of martincampbell2 and Open in browser > Search for @martincampbell2. I would also like to have More > Follow martincampbell2, so that I can follow a user named in a tweet without having to remember how to spell the user name correctly or enter it manually on my telephone keypad.
You have already done most of the hard work required for this feature because you are already parsing the tweet for @username, and you already have a function to follow new users. Adding the new menu entry for users named in a tweet should be easy and would be useful.
20 Martin Campbell // Apr 19, 2009 at 16:12
The timestamp ageing bug I described in comment 13 still appears to be present in version 0.9.7 on SE w910i.

@thilo – I can see the tweets now and more importantly, I can finally see avatars! Which is GREAT! Great job! My one request would be the option to search for your own terms not just the username. Even if we had a menu shortcut that opened search.twitter.com in a browser that would be great!
Also, if there was a way to have the “posted from” info added to the timestap that would be great.
Keep up the grea work!

Any chance of being able to go from top->bottom of the menus? It now takes too many button presses to get to things like opening links and exit. If we can go ‘up’ from the top and it takes you to the bottom of the menu that would be better.
Or maybe condense the main menu a bit? Maybe have a tweet sub-menu where things like ‘tweet’, ‘DM’, ‘@-reply’, ‘RT’ and ‘DM to ‘ could be.
Or have a main menu and a tweet menu, most phones now have a left button and a ‘centre’ button. Use the left one as a main menu where you have options, more, location etc. and the centre button as a tweet menu with tweet, dm, reply etc?
Lots of options there?! Just think it would make things a bit more usable/quicker.
not found any bugs in 0.9.8, really liking this app. Thanks!

Great application, by far the best.
However, upon upgrading this morning I’m now having problems. Installed on my Nokia N96 (using latest firmware available). Upgraded fine and now tweets don’t refresh. They load fine when you open the app, but that is it. Even a [*] doesn’t download the latest ones, it does nothing. Tried every setting and even fully deinstalled and reinstalled and restarted the phone. I can only get new tweets if I exit the app and restart it.
Also, nothing showing in the replies or DM filtered views – just blank.

Running Twibble 0.9.5 on a Nokia E71-2.
To exit the program and not hide it, I must access the menu and then scroll to the bottom of the menu.
I suggest allowing the user to scroll through the list in either directions, so the user could reach “exit” by going up one space on the menu instead of down 8.
30 Dazzla // Apr 21, 2009 at 08:39
This appears to have broken my installation. I get the message “Rate limit exceeded” which I know not to be the case. I fixed this in 0.9.5 by turning on SSL but there is no option to do so in this version.
I’ll be looking for a new twitter client. Dot releases shouldn’t break anything.
31 thilo // Apr 21, 2009 at 09:23
@Dazzla in the new version you switch on SSL by setting server api root to https://twitter.com
32 debianese // Apr 21, 2009 at 18:20
I have some problems with the new version! When i try to load my tweets i get an error like this: “Error: the target of the n….” I can’t read the rest of the sentence an i can’t find a log file to see the whole error!
some seconds later the messages just switches to “oops!”.
Is there a way to downlaod the prevois version, so that twibble works again?? It was the best Twitter app i could find for my phone (By the way it’s a LG Viewty!)
33 The Exit // Apr 21, 2009 at 22:30
34 thilo // Apr 21, 2009 at 22:48
@debianese does the prob persist? iy yes, you can see the log by pressing ‘9′ or navigate to the more->log menue. The full err msg would be helpful
35 thilo // Apr 21, 2009 at 22:53
@The Exit it seems the problem is related to MIDP2.1 devices (N96/N79/5800 etc.). Hope we’ll have fix soon! If you find any hints when and when not tweets are displayed pls let me know! As for the exit: Most people like the hide btn in front but we will also make the Exit btn easier to find. This shoud make most people happy.

37 The Exit // Apr 22, 2009 at 07:45

38 //Rutger // Apr 22, 2009 at 09:54
Oops… several crashes on my BlackBerry Bold. Two times when sending a tweet with a picture an two times (I think) when the connection was not that reliable.
39 //Rutger // Apr 22, 2009 at 10:07
But despite the few crashes I love Twibble! That has to be said!
A small feature request: when using the Twibble mobile edition, can the ‘from’ be set to ‘Tibble Mobile’ so people that read my tweets se that I’m on the go?
40 debianese // Apr 22, 2009 at 10:08
Ok thanks for the shortcut ![]()
The Error log says:
[Error] TimelineLoader run: the target of the name cannot be found.
by the way, there’s also a problem with the menu.. It looks just like this:
tweet[1|t]
DM[2|d]
options[0]
Exit
That’s all.. everything else is missing…
41 Ali // Apr 22, 2009 at 15:51
Updates push the cursor to the top of the Tweet list so you have to scroll back down to where you were in the list and read back up to the top. Before the cursor remembered where it was. Could we have that behaviour back? Otherwise avatars etc. brilliant. Thanks!
42 AJ // Apr 23, 2009 at 00:30
Is there anyway to have twibble NOT use a BES connection? When attempting with SSL turned off, I get an “invalid uname/pwd” error. The log says it was unable to connect. With SSL on, I get “Rate limit exceeded” with a matching error in the log. It seems like the app is trying to use my BES connection (which blocks access to Twitter) instead of the carrier TCP/IP connection (which is wide open). TwitterBerry had an option to select what connection to use, and I was wondering if there was any way to get a similar option in twibble.
43 Alister // Apr 23, 2009 at 01:16
Twibble now seems to be broken since the update. Since installing the latest update, I can now only open it once. If I close twibble, it will not open again until I reinstall the app. I have tried restarting the phone several times with no success.
I have reinstalled twibble from the website 3 times now, and still cannot use it reliably. I should mention that when twibble is working (and this is the only issue I have had with it) it is my favourite twitter client. Cheers, Alister

Hey, nice new version of twibble! I often use it, very good programm. But I was wondering why the pictures now get uploaded on mobypicture instead of twitpic? is there any way to change this?
Cheers,
182fans
45 Fernando // Apr 24, 2009 at 00:50
If there is a link on a tweet, it should be easier to access it. Right now, you must click on the tweet, scroll all the way down to “open in browser”, open yet another menu, and the option you want (to open the link) is the last one. This should be simpler.
46 CLU883R // Apr 24, 2009 at 11:59
why the hell my pics are on mobypicture instead of twitpic since the upgrade ? why the left and right arrows are giving the replies and DMS ? where can I donwnload the older version ?
47 @roomaroo // Apr 25, 2009 at 09:04
I’m getting the same issue as @lox333 on my Nokia N78. Tweets load when twibble starts, but there’s no way to refresh without restarting the program.
Looks nice though!

Been using 0.9.8 on my SE w910i and SE W595 for a week now. Very stable. The new twibble mobile rocks!
Feature request – wraparound scrolling everywhere. Up from top jumps to bottom. Down from bottom jumps to top. Can you implement this in tweets, replies, dms and menus?
49 thilo // Apr 26, 2009 at 22:39
@Martin Campbell thx again! Will be in the next version! In tweet lists ‘down’ will fetch older tweets. menus will cycle. And twitpic will be back in addition to moby.
