twibble mobile 0.9.5

thanks to all twibble mobile testers we’ve got a new version available. Despite a couple of bug fixes it allows to follow all links in the browser (not just the first one). There is also a new option to specify to auto scroll the tweet list when new messages arrive. Some other features are described in this post. Point your phone browser to http://m.twibble.de and download the latest beta.
A note to SonyEricsson users: Most SE phones don’t seem to accept twitter’s ssl certificate. There are 2 ways to get around the prob: Either you can switch off SSL by entering “http://twitter.com” in server api root or you can try to install a certificate as described by moeffju and Martin Campbell here. Thx for the hints, guys!

Just updated. Much faster than 0.9.3, liking the auto-scroll.
Thanks :)

For some reason I still can’t see avatars on my 8320 Curve, even in 0.9.5. All I get is black boxes. I’ve tried uninstallin and re-installing and still get nothing.

Beyond that, twibble would almost be perfect if it had two more options. The first would be the ability to treat “@name” instances as links as it does on twitter. This would allow the user to see other users timelines.

Second, the ability to Twitter search.

Add these two options, and we have a winner.

Oh, and if you can figure out why I still can’t see avatars that would be great!

Problem:
On my Nokia E71(FW 200.21.118), if you launch twibble 0.95 and the mobile can’t establish a packet services connection(e.g. you lose coverage part way establishing a connection), the twibble screen goes blank with just the ‘Menu’ soft key showing. Nothing happens when you try to select ‘Menu’ softkey. The only way to exit twibble is to restart the phone.

Request:
It would be nice to have the right-hand softkey selectable via the options menu rather than hard-coded as ‘Hide’. I would like to be able to change it to ‘Exit’, ‘Hide’ or ‘Reload’

5 thilo // Apr 14, 2009 at 20:21

@Philo could you pls set the debug level to ‘info’ and see if there are any related messages? And, yes I think your requests make perfectly sense!

6 thilo // Apr 14, 2009 at 20:24

@ninebladed if there are network probs you could try to reload the tweets using ‘*’ or ‘#’ later. Most people wanted the ‘Hide’ button on the softkey (Reload is on ‘*’)

This version still gives me the Error: Time out. I do have a dataplan, so connecting through TCP should work. And besides, version 0.8.7 worked just fine, with the same settings and the same dataplan. So I don’t know what changed, but I can’t use Twibble anymore..And as noted before: I tried http instead of https.
My phone is Blackberry Pearl 8120.
It would be great if you can figure out what happens! :D

Hi thilo. After a little testing I have found that I can recreate the problem even if I have a good packet services connection(Wifi as well). I don’t think it is connection related as I suggested in my first post.
Each time I reload[#], the message list panel goes blank. I see – fetching tweets, fetching replies, fetching dms, no new dms and then I end up with the blank message list panel. At the top of the screen I see ‘ninebladed tweets’. At the bottom I see ‘Menu’ and ‘Hide’. The ‘Hide’ key works fine. The ‘Menu’ key does nothing. The shortcut keys still work fine. i.e [0], [9] etc.
I upgraded from version 0.8.x to 0.9.5. I didn’t have this problem with 0.8.x as I recall.

It would be cool to see the number of unread tweets in the titlebar. Unread would mean tweets that I’ve yet to scroll past. This would be very useful when I haven’t looked at twibble in awhile.

Hi thilo! I downloaded and installed twibble mobile 0.9.5 beta on my Nokia N72 but it doesn’t run. When I try to start the application nothing happens. I’ve tried replacing, removing, re-installing, everything but it still won’t run.

11 Einzelspieler // Apr 15, 2009 at 12:35

I’m surprised the photo sharing service was changed from twitpic to MobyPic. Is there a way to switch back to twitpic (which has dozens of my pictures already)?

13 jTemplar // Apr 15, 2009 at 20:08

@ninebladed I get exactly what you describe above on my LG Cookie whereas on my LG Viewty twibble mobile 0.9.5 works perfect.

14 bis // Apr 15, 2009 at 22:32

Twibble 0.95 doesn’t run on my Nokia n70.

15 thilo // Apr 15, 2009 at 22:33

@ninebladed do you see any tweets when you press right or left after the screen goes blank?

16 thilo // Apr 15, 2009 at 22:34

@Annelies strange … Is there any information in the log?

17 joelphoto // Apr 15, 2009 at 22:35

can someone please tell me if this will work with the samsung instinct? Thanks.

18 thilo // Apr 15, 2009 at 22:36

@Joey you could switch off auto scroll in the options. All tweets above the selection are the new ones

19 thilo // Apr 15, 2009 at 22:38

@Firebolt the N72 is probably a little old to run twibble, I’m afraid …

20 thilo // Apr 15, 2009 at 22:39

@Einzelspieler auto scroll ‘off’ in Options should do the trick

21 thilo // Apr 15, 2009 at 22:44

@Christian Reis IMO Mobypicture is a great service as it seems to be very reliable. It also shows the location in a map.

23 ninebladed // Apr 16, 2009 at 22:23

@thilo I have posted screenshots of what I see before and after reloading here http://www.mobypicture.com/user/ninebladed/view/162588 and here http://www.mobypicture.com/user/ninebladed/view/162594.
Ive done a little more testing. Fetching new tweets[*] does not give me a problem. Only reloading[#] causes the tweet list to go blank and the ‘Menu’ to stop working. When I push the ‘Menu’ softkey the ‘Menu’ text flashes briefly with each softkey push, but nothing happens. I have to restart the phone to get twibble to quit.
I have set logging to info but I can’t see any error type messages. Saying that, I’m not exactly sure what is normal and what isn’t from a log perspective. Is the log saved to a file ? If so were ? I could send it to you.

24 Philo // Apr 17, 2009 at 06:35

@thilo I don’t know what I’m looking for in the log but it doesn’t say anything related to avatars. Is twibble supposed to access the s3.amazon…url? When twibble loads it asks for permission to access that url and I select yes. The tweets appear but the avatars do not.

@thilo Any fix for this problem with freezing – not loading tweets – no menu access Thilo? I am using an LG Cookie and Twibble loads but then fails to load tweets. I see Loading… then error:the target of t***n where * is the Twibble logo. Pressing right or left after the screen goes blank moves between dms(blank), replies(blank), and tweets(blank). Selecting ‘Menu’ does not bring up menu. When I tap ‘Menu’ the ‘Menu’ text flashes briefly with each tap, but nothing happens. To alter menu I have to uninstall and reinstall. Thanks john

27 thilo // Apr 17, 2009 at 18:06

@ninebladed @jTemplar thanks a lot for your comments! Will be fixed in the next beta due this weeken!

28 thilo // Apr 17, 2009 at 18:07

@Philo the twitter avatar pics are actually located at s3. Hope your issues will be fixed in the upcoming beta, too!

29 jTemplar // Apr 17, 2009 at 18:16

@thilo Thanks

30 Eli // Apr 17, 2009 at 18:56

Hi all! Loving twibble.
I would just like to add that I have the same exact problem as @ninebladed.

Thanks!

31 Eli // Apr 17, 2009 at 18:58

Sorry, forgot to mention: I have a Nokia 6120 Classic.

32 Annelies // Apr 17, 2009 at 22:29

@thilo I can’t get into the log, dunno why. After Error: time out, I open the menu, try More…, but nothing happens. Dunno if there’s another way to check the log…
Does it help to mention my Blackberry OS details?
v4.5.0.55 (platform 2.7.0.68)

33 @kiko666 // Apr 18, 2009 at 11:26

@thilo mobypicture is probably indeed fine; however, I already have quite a few pictures up at twitpic and didn’t want to abandon them. Is there any chance you’d offer an option for one or the other, or was the twitpic code removed in the 0.9 series? So far I’m stuck on 0.8 because of this. Thanks!

34 Martin Campbell // Apr 19, 2009 at 13:06

Possible bug in 0.9.5 on SE w910i. I have not seen this behaviour in 0.9.6 yet so it may have been fixed. Screen appears blank on startup even after initial tweets fetched. New tweets not shown on update even after new tweets fetched. Navigating left/right/up/down makes missing tweets appear.

35 Anechoic // Apr 21, 2009 at 00:35

Count me in as someone who wants Twitpic back, I have a bunch of pictures there already.

36 Ifeatme // Apr 21, 2009 at 02:43

I prefer blue border color not red.

37 FB // Apr 21, 2009 at 05:56

Twitpic please. At least as an option.

38 Deliane // Apr 21, 2009 at 12:23

Is there anything that can be done about the black background? It’s very dark.

39 thilo // Apr 21, 2009 at 12:25

@Deliane you can select a different theme: darkred, pink, … (Options)

40 Deliane // Apr 21, 2009 at 15:13

Ok – great thanks

41 Gordon // Apr 21, 2009 at 20:37

New version fails to load tweets on my K660i, off to find another client then I guess…

42 Jccaskey // Jun 4, 2009 at 16:54

I just downloaded Twibble to my BB Pearl (switched from Tint Twitter because I want to be able to mobile upload pics) and I cannot see any of my friends updates. Everything is blank, but if I log in on my laptop I can see my friends ARE twittering. What gives? I want to be able to see what they tweet. How do I work this thing?!
