Blackberry integration? Time to install ![]()
Thanks Thilo!
the twibble blog!
new twibble mobile 0.9.3 available!

The public beta of the all new twibble mobile for Java enabled smartphones is now available. It has been rewritten from the ground and includes many improvements:
- Different screens for tweets, replies, and direct messages. You can flip through the screens using the right and left keys (trackball).
- avatar pics (enable in options or leave disabled for low bandwidth connections).
- support for identi.ca and private/corporate laconi.ca instances.
- support for uploading photos to Mobypicture.com. Photos will even be geocoded if you have a GPS enabled phone! Look here for an example.
- much nicer Blackberry integration. twibble functions are directly accessible via the standard BB menu key.
- more themes including darkred and pink.
- faster, smaller memory footprint, and better overall UI experience.
- no intermediate server, requests will directly access the twitter servers securely via https.
Point your phone browser to http://m.twibble.de and follow the instructions. The final version will be signed to get rid of the annoying confirmation/security dialogs. This is a beta version which will expire on June, 1st. As always, looking forward to your feedback!

There is a bug that when I retweet(RT), there is no @ sign after the “RT”, that’s not correct.
Could you fix it?
4 LeON // Apr 11, 2009 at 16:52
and I just want to report a bug with RT, ya’ll forgot a “@” before the username…. if I RT something, twibble displays “RT xxx” not “RT @xxx”.

Getting message ‘Server not certified – continue with secure connection?’ every time it tries to update. Have to reply Yes. Any way to stop this?
6 brayjd // Apr 11, 2009 at 17:50
Sorry phone is a SE K850i. Thanks

@Liron looking forward to your feedback!
8 thilo // Apr 11, 2009 at 17:53
@LeON, @Sunny, you’re perfectly right, will fix!
9 thilo // Apr 11, 2009 at 17:57
@brayjd you probably get the same error when you open https://twitter.com using your phone browser, right? In that case your phone doesn’t trust twitter’s ssl certificate. There’s not much I can do, I’m afraid. You can enter http://twitter.com in the server root URI to use twibble without ssl.

Thanks. That worked

Unfortunately I get “JAVA-Spielfehler” (JAVA game error) after downloading. Twibble up to now is the only J2ME app on my Samsung SGH-250 that presents me with that kind of error. Back to jibjib for a while.
12 Benmdixon // Apr 11, 2009 at 18:41
Liking the new version but have a couple of requests:
1 – it now vibrates 3 times when you get new tweets. I preferred the previous behaviour of just one.
2 – is there any chance of having an audible alert when receiving new tweets? Something simple like a short beep would be good. Nothing too fancy
Feel free to ignore these, they are just things that i feel would make twibble even better. Thanks ![]()
Also, is the new version slower for anyone else or is it just my phone?

Getting 0.8.7 from both installation and download links :/
14 Annelies // Apr 11, 2009 at 21:03
The app gives a Error: time out! on my BB Pearl 8120, while it worked before updating (except the parsing always hanged, but cancel solved that). I tried http://twitter.com instead of https, but still time out. Any thoughts?
15 maybeedeluxe // Apr 11, 2009 at 21:09
Has anyone tried this version on the N73 yet?
16 zebramädchen // Apr 11, 2009 at 23:17
I was sooo looking forward to finally seeing avatars, but on my Sony Ericsson K800i the tweets display kinda scrumbled with avatars :-/ . I hope this is something you can fix! apart from that it works fine.
keep up the good work!

@black_keys not sure what “Spielefehler” means but it seems the SGH-250 is slightly out-of-date to run twibble, I’m afraid
18 thilo // Apr 11, 2009 at 23:47
@Benmdixon will have a look into it. It’s supposed to vibrate just once. twibble should run much faster now, however, the speed also depends on the twitter response time.
19 thilo // Apr 11, 2009 at 23:48
@Marc Fiszman maybe a caching/cookie issue with your phone browser? the files should be ok
20 thilo // Apr 11, 2009 at 23:50
@Annelies twibble requires the APN to be set up correctly. Does the first Q&A help http://www.twibble.de/trouble-with-twibble/ ?
21 thilo // Apr 11, 2009 at 23:54
@zebramädchen strange, do you have a screenshot?
22 Attore // Apr 12, 2009 at 00:15
hmm, strage. Says first ID/passw is wrong, then starts trying to load my timeline I suppose. Anyway to verify whether it is logging in correctly ?
I have entered the correct credentials

I had some issues with the N73. Installed it via PC first and my phone didn’t recognize my mobile provider afterwards. After restarting the phone and removing the battery, i could start twibble, but the tweets didn’t load. I uninstalled and then re-installed it via phone this time and it worked out first, but updates kept not loading and the program hung…
Like someone already mentioned above, it was slower than the previous version for me too.
I’m on the old version again now, which works perfectly, because i need twibble on that phone.
From what i could see so far, the new one looks very cool with the avatar pics.
I’m using it with Congstar, Software V 3.0638.0.0.1 RM-133 – O2 germany branding, if this information is helpful.

@maybeedeluxe, is it any better when you switch off ssl (enter http://twitter.com as the server api root in Options)? Do you have the latest firmware for your phone? http://europe.nokia.com/softwareupdate
25 thilo // Apr 12, 2009 at 08:22
@Attore may be it was just a twitter hiccup? Let me know if the prob persits.
26 Håkon // Apr 12, 2009 at 12:17
Works fine on my Nokia N95 8GB with GPS.
However, the application doesn’t check for new tweets when I update. If that’s a minor bug or just not implemented I don’t know.
I like the application, but I think it would be great if there was a kind of “VIP filter” to reduce the number of twitter users I follow when using my mobile.
27 purepaws // Apr 12, 2009 at 13:04
New version is working great except every time twibble updates it vibrates – even though no new tweets have occurred.
It’s making it effectively unusable for me.
28 maybeedeluxe // Apr 12, 2009 at 13:24
@thilo, i switched off SSL, but it didn’t work. Alas i couldn’t get the latest firmware, last time i tried, because the phone is O2 branded.
It’s the same with my 5800 (O2), i can’t update it either
29 thilo // Apr 12, 2009 at 13:29
You can switch off notifications in the options dlg?

Avatars are not showing on the 8320 Curve. Just black boxes. Restarted app and its still the same. Changed the template too, nothing.
32 thilo // Apr 12, 2009 at 22:13
@Philo strange, works here and on others. Do you have the latest firmware?
33 Philo // Apr 12, 2009 at 23:06
@thilo yes, 4.5.
34 moeffju // Apr 13, 2009 at 01:52
Those having SSL troubles should download and install the Equifax CA cert from here: http://is.gd/s54K Put it on your phone and open the file. It should ask you to install the CA cert. Check all checkboxes and save. https://twitter.com/ should then work without problems.
35 Håkon // Apr 13, 2009 at 12:21
Seems that the replies-screen is slow updating. Is it only showing replies that have scrolled off the main screen?
36 thilo // Apr 13, 2009 at 12:26
@Håkon you’re right! Will be fixed in the next version (available soon)

Loving Twibble so far! It’s so much faster than the other mobile Twitter clients I tried (I’m on a BlackBerry Curve 8330). My only gripes are that, first, there’s no indication of how many characters I have left to type. This is pretty key for Twitter clients. Secondly, when I hit reply, I would expect the cursor to be at the end of the name of the person I’m replying too. Right now I have to scroll there which I find a little annoying.
Other than that, fantastic job!

Two solutions to SSL problems e.g. “Server not certified – Continue with the secure connection?” on Sony Ericsson.
A. Switch from HTTPS to HTTP:
1. Menu > Options > Server API root
2. Enter http://twitter.com
B. Install the missing Equifax security certificate:
1. Download the certificate to your computer (not your phone) from https://www.geotrust.com/resources/root_certificates/certificates/Equifax_Secure_Global_eBusiness_CA-1_DER.cer
N.B. Downloading the certificate directly to a Sony Ericsson phone DOES NOT WORK.
2. Use OBEX Object Push to transfer the certificate to your phone e.g. obexftp -u 0 -p Equifax_Secure_Global_eBusiness_CA-1_DER.cer
The new certificate should be automatically installed after transfer.
3. Alternatively, copy the certificate from the computer (not direct download) to another phone (not the one you want to install it on).
3. Use Bluetooth to transfer the certificate from the second phone to the first.
The new certificate should be automatically installed after transfer.
Thanks to thilo and moeffju for the information.

Every time I try to tweet it just says “unauthorized”. Using blackberry 8330 with 4.5.0.77 firmware installed. Don’t know what else to try… I know 100% that I have the correct username and password.

No! Old version worked great with my BB Curve. This new version won’t even launch. I get “Module Twibble has verification error 2863 at offset ae9b” Can we have the old version back, please?
